My friend Sarah and I decided to go horse riding and when we called the horses they wouldn't come which was odd.

We went up to catch them as they were hanging out under the shady trees, only to find the horses were hanging around the fence and we saw a young kangaroo stuck in the fence, he was caught by both his feet and upside down.

We thought he was dead at first but then he started to struggle when one of the horses touched him with her nose.

I went over and tried to pull the wire apart enough so his foot could slip out but it was too tight.

Then we heard a loud growling and found there was a very angry mother kangaroo coming for us!

We both ran away as the mother leapt the fence onto our side and then did a loop around us and went back to her baby.

We flagged down Sarah’s dad who was driving past the paddocks (a paddock is a small enclosure or field of grassland used to keep horses) and he came to help.
The mother room watched but didn't charge again, and Sarah’s dad got the wire apart and the little Joey dropped to the ground, he tried to hop away but kept falling over, we thought his feet might have been broken.

Her dad called the wildlife people to ask if they wanted to collect him but they said they don't rehabilitate kangaroos, they are generally put down if they are injured.

Well the mum room came to her baby and tried to get him to follow her, she wanted to lead him into the bush and he tried to follow but kept falling. He looked a bit big to still be going in the pouch but the mum let him try climb in. After half an hour he succeeded in getting in, luckily too as I was contemplating taking him home myself!
